About our fencing
Fences almost always fail at the same place: the post, at ground level, where timber meets wet soil. That is why a boundary can look sound for years and then lose three panels in one February gale. Replacing panels without addressing the posts is the most common false economy in garden work.
We set posts in concrete, use pressure-treated timber throughout, and keep timber clear of standing soil where the design allows. On closeboard fencing we build with proper gravel boards so the vulnerable bottom edge is a replaceable component rather than the structural one.
We do both ends of the job — a single blown panel after a storm, or a full boundary run taken out and rebuilt with new posts, gravel boards, capping and a gate. Old fencing is broken down and removed under our waste licence, so there is no pile of rotten timber left behind.

Measure and check the boundary
We measure the run, check levels and ground conditions, and talk through where the boundary line actually is. That last part saves a lot of trouble later.

Choose the specification
Closeboard, feather-edge, lap panel or trellis-topped, with timber or concrete posts. We explain the cost and lifespan trade-offs rather than just quoting the cheapest.
- 03
Old fence out
Existing panels and posts come out, including concrete footings where they are in the way. It all leaves with us.
- 04
Posts set, then the fence built
Posts are set plumb in concrete and allowed to go off before load is put on them. Then panels or boards go on, with gravel boards keeping timber out of the soil.
- 05
Gates, capping and clear down
Gates hung and adjusted to swing and latch properly, capping fitted, ground raked and all waste removed.

What affects the price
We quote per job rather than per hour, so the number cannot creep. These are the things that move it up or down.
The fastest route to a price: send two or three photos on WhatsApp. We can usually quote from photos the same day, with no site visit needed.

There is no universal rule — the common belief that it is always the left-hand one is a myth. Your title deeds or Land Registry plan may show a boundary mark (a small T) indicating responsibility. If it is unclear, it is worth agreeing with your neighbour before work starts, and we are happy to wait while that happens.
As a general rule in England you can build up to 2m without planning permission, dropping to 1m where the boundary adjoins a highway used by vehicles. There are exceptions for listed buildings and some conservation areas, so check with the council if you are near either.
Concrete posts last considerably longer and are the pragmatic choice for an exposed boundary you do not want to revisit. Timber looks better and suits shorter runs and lower fences. We will price either.
Yes, and sometimes that is genuinely the right call. But if the posts are going as well, replacing panels alone means doing the job twice — we will tell you honestly which situation you are in.
A typical domestic boundary run is one to two days. Where posts are being concreted we may split the work across two visits so footings can set properly before panels are loaded on.
